Every year on the 4th of July we celebrate the anniversary of our country declaring independence from Great Britain by lighting off fireworks, getting together with family and friends and treating ourselves to backyard barbecues and beers, and no beer in the history of the United States of America is more patriotic than our Schlafly American IPA. Our AIPA, quite literally, is handcrafted with real bits of America, so you know it works.
You see, the true secret to Schlafly American IPA is that in addition to the American-grown Amarillo, Simcoe, and Centennial hops that we use to brew our golden-colored, full-bodied, big hop beer…there are a few other unique processes involved that ensure American IPA is the most patriotic beer in the galaxy.
After the initial brew process that creates the bitterness and citrus and fruit undertones, then we proceed to age the beer in wooden barrels originally used by Thomas Jefferson that we acquired from the Monticello Estate in 2006 in exchange for our coveted Schlafly Sticky Toffee Pudding recipe. Along with the beer, into those barrels we place wood shavings from a pair of George Washington’s false teeth aquired on eBay as well as wood staves peeled from one of Hacksaw Jim Duggan’s “Two by Fours”.
To finish the beer, and many people don’t know this, but on the roof of Schlafly Bottleworks we have a state of the art Bald Eagle aviary where every single bottle of American IPA is then placed in a nest with a mother Bald Eagle who then sits upon the bottle for no less than four days while the beer incubates.
It’s quite similar to the pasteurization processes that many other breweries use to finish their beers but our patented “Bald Eagle Incubation Process” (B.E.I.P. ™) not only helps to stabilize our beer…but it simultaneously infuses it with the life essence of the most patriotic bird in the known Universe. It really is quite breathtaking and you don’t get to see this on the tour.
So, that is the true story of how we brew Schlafly American IPA. The “A” stands for American!
From your friends at Schlafly Beer, have a safe and fun 4th of July holiday.
