Bottleworks Gets A Facelift - Bridging The Gap During Construction

As many of you may know, Schlafly Bottleworks has been closed for the week for renovations and improvements. Work to the facility was to include a brand new floor in our kitchen, a completely new paint job throughout the restaurant side of the building, a re-build of our walk-in cooler that most of our beer flows from to our bars, and a complete overhaul of our Crown Room bar, which also doubles as our brewery tour tasting room. As is common with construction projects, sometimes it’s only after you start making a mess that the surprises pop up and the best laid plans have delays. We’ve had a few such surprises this week and while the re-opening of Bottleworks will be delayed, it won’t be by much and we have what we think is a fun plan in place to bridge the gap.

A Special Brew To Toast STL 250

On February 14th, The Saint Louis Brewery, makers of Schlafly Beer will launch Phoenix 250 on draft at both The Schlafly Tap Room and Schlafly Bottleworks. Brewed specifically for the StL 250 celebration, this golden ale showcases the UK grown hop, Phoenix, which features molasses, chocolate, pine and floral characteristics. The Phoenix hop was specifically chosen to be featured in this one-off Schlafly draft release as a symbolic toast to St. Louis’s bright future, as the City and Region rise again.

The Secret To Schlafly Bottleworks' Success

Recently our main production brewery and sister restaurant to The Schlafly Tap Room, Schlafly Bottleworks, was named to represent the state of Missouri in a piece titled, “America’s Most Popular Bars In 2013”. While it is certainly always nice to be recognized in a positive light, I think it would be safe to say that the reaction most of us had around the brewery to the article was more one of curiosity. You see, when co-founder Dan Kopman or even myself find ourselves describing Schlafly Bottleworks to the public, you might assume we were describing a community center as opposed to one of “America’s most popular bars.”  So…you can imagine our collective gobsmack.

Schlafly Chestnut Mild Ale: A Real "Craft" Beer

Not too long ago our Co-Founder, Dan Kopman found himself at Eataly in New York enjoying a beer brewed with Italian chestnuts and as often happens when enjoying a good pint, Dan got to thinking. As it turns out, Missouri is home to a great deal of the nut trees in the US, including delicious local chestnuts. Dan asked his friend, James Beard Award nominated chef, Gerard Craft if he was interested in working on a beer together. Gerard sourced over 200 lbs. of local chestnuts (some of the sweetest he had ever tasted) from farmer, Brent Fadler in Centralia, MO (pop. 4,000) and he and his crew got to roasting and peeling them…by hand! Gerard and his wife Suzie worked closely with Dan to create a recipe to showcase the locally sourced chestnuts and ultimately decided upon an American twist on an English Mild Ale. All that was left was a fun day in the brewhouse.

Time For Some World Series Wagers Between Craft Brewery Friends

Our beloved baseball team has once again made it to the Fall Classic and the Commissioner’s Trophy won’t be the only thing on the line when the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox face-off once more in the 2013 World Series. It turns out that our co-founder, Dan Kopman is quite the betting man and Schlafly Beer has not one, but two exciting bets riding on the Series with our friends at Harpoon Brewery and the Boston Beer Compay, makers of Samuel Adams.

Schlafly Pumpkin Brings Home $5,000 To Local Charity!

Full disclosure, one of my best friends that I grew up with here in St. Louis manages New Belgium Brewing Co.’s social media platforms and directs a good deal of their online strategy. He’s the dapper fellow with the ridiculous awesome mustache on the New Belgium homepage and you will often find him proudly rocking a St. Louis Cardinals hat in video appearances. He’s good people, and from good people often come good ideas, and he had a great one.

Is Your Child Our Inaugural Schlafly Baby™?

The Schlafly Tap Room first opened it doors on December 26th, 1991 and by our math that means that somewhere out there, the very first child to have been conceived with some form of involvement from our brewery could be turning 21 as early as this Fall…and we want to find them, recognize them, and make sure their first legal sip of beer is Schlafly Beer.
