Pootie Tang (Louis C. K., 2001, USA, 81 min.) Part of Strange Brew: Cult Films presented by The Webster Film Series at Schlafly Bottleworks
Baby, I’m going to sine your pitty on the runny kine!
Pootie Tang, the musician/actor/super hero of the ghetto, warns his enemies at the eve of their destruction. Stranger still, this is the same phrase he uses to woo the ladies. In this nearly incomprehensible but nonetheless extremely funny film from Chris Rock, Pootie’s life is chronicled from his early childhood to his battles against the evil Corporate America, who try to steal his magic belt and make him sell out by endorsing addictive products to his people. Pootie (comedian Lance Crouther) who speaks in an unintelligible jive, seemingly understood by everyone else in the film, must learn to find himself and defeat the evil corporation for all the young black children of America, supatime.
Presented in Schlafly Bottleworks, 7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood, MO 63143. Admission $4
