Specifics on the Brews from our visiting Texas Breweries

Deep Ellum Brewing Co. – Dallas, TX

Rye Pils - 4.6% ABV / 38 IBU
This is a crisp, clean, spicy, and floral lighter session lager. Unfiltered, dry hopped, mashed with rye malt and brewed with American hops of noble Germanic descent. The way it was  done the first time.

Double Brown Stout - 7 % ABV / 27 IBU
Our Baltic version of this Stout Porter, or strong Oatmeal Porter, emphasizes the chocolatey and dark dried fruit character over the burnt or ashy roast flavors of some its cousins. Our DBS is fermented with a lager yeast, whose cleaner fermentation profile allows the malt and hop flavors do the talking.

Deep Ellum IPA - 7% ABV / 70 IBU
Our year ‘round ode to the Pacific Northwest hop. At DEBC, we like hops, but we like American hops most of all. Here we use some of our absolute favorites using varieties with high alpha acid contents in ways that emphasize the flavor and aroma.

Dream Crusher Double Rye IPA  - 10.4% ABV / 100+ IBUs
A quantum leap beyond our IPA, with rye, of course. Hops may be the current ruler of the craft beer scene, and we, for one, welcome our resinous, spicy, bitter overlords. We’ve taken the IPA category to its Event Horizon, and pulled back just enough to see the edge. Get the big picture, it’s hoppy!

Darkest Hour  - 11% ABV / 60 IBUs
We mash this rye-imperial stout with enough grain to overflow our oversized Mash/Lauter Tun, augment it with raw cane sugar and Belgian-style dark candi syrup, balance it with abundant, tasty hops and then feed the resulting wort to our favorite ale yeast. This ale is one for the ages.

Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. – Fort Worth, TX

Rahr’s Blonde – 4.75% ABV/ 20 IBU
Blonde Lager was the first beer Rahr & Sons Brewing Company ever made. It is a medium-bodied traditional Munich-style Helles Lager that features a rounded maltiness without being too heavy. And like every proud Texan, it has a good head and is very pleasant.

Texas Red – 4.75% ABV / 25 IBU
This Amber Lager is a tip-of-the-hat to our home state of Texas. It’s got a balanced flavor with notes of caramel and a sound malt character that’s perfectly balanced with just a bit of hops. Texas Red is super-smooth and very drinkable. This is a beer just for Texans…and anybody who wishes they were a Texan.

Ugly Pug – 4.75% ABV / 27 IBU
Ugly Pug is a schwarzbier,or Black Lager, but the real story is it’s name. Fritz Rahr once saw Oscar, his mother-in-law’s Pug and shouted, “WHAT AN UGLY PUG!” You guessed it, they were brewing a test batch that night and the rest is history. Ugly Pug is dark in color, but light in body. The roasted malts give off notes of chocolate and coffee.

Stormcloud IPA – 6% ABV / 70 IBU
During a fierce storm, on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr yelled, “Roll on old sea! And when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!!!” To commemorate this voyage, we created an India Pale Ale (IPA) with a touch of German influence.

Bucking Bock – 7.5% ABV / 35 IBU
When weighted against the pleasant aroma of spicy hops, the slightly sweet malt flavor provides a smooth balance. It braces us for the thaw of the cold winter months while it’s snset golden hue turns our thoughts towards the rebirth of springtime.

Real Ale Brewing Co. – Blanco, TX

Firemans #4 Blonde Ale  - 5.1% ABV / 23 IBU
This refreshing blonde ale strikes a perfect balance between the smoothness of the malt, the subtle fruitiness of our house ale yeast, and zesty citrus notes from Crystal hops. Firemans #4 is a great way to beat the heat—enjoy it on a Texas summer day, or pair it with spicy foods to help put out the fire.

Lost Gold IPA  - 6.6% ABV  / 63 IBU
Massive additions of American hops in Lost Gold IPA provide the signature flavor and aroma of this Hill Country favorite. German Vienna and English crystal malts give our IPA its rich golden-orange hue and subtle yet firm malt background. Lost Gold IPA is available year round, so there is no need to hoard this treasured brew!

Phoenixx Double Extra Special Bitter - 7.2 % ABV / 60 IBU
Our winter seasonal is inspired by the great ales of the UK but brewed with a distinctively American attitude. English crystal malt gives Phoenixx its subtle toffee and caramel notes, but this hops. The blend of English hops, highlighted by its namesake, Phoenix, yields a complex hop character that dominates this special brew.

Devil’s Backbone - 8.1% ABV / 31 IBU
Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberley, Devil’s Backbone is a Belgian-style tripel. Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale.

15th Anniversary Ale  - 9.8% ABV / 70 IBU
A majestic ale for a monumental occasion, this noble brew evolved from its common cousins, porter and stout, by necessity to endure the long voyage to the Russian royal court. Colossal additions of American hops are used to balance the robust malt character and infuse this ale with their distinctly citrus-like qualities. 15th Anniversary ale can be consumed now or laid down for later enjoyment.
